Overview

The Cukerman's Gate Foundation

The Będzin Ghetto Fighters’ House is one of the most important authentic sites of Jewish resistance during the Holocaust in Poland. During the German occupation, it served as the headquarters of Zionist youth movements and a center of underground resistance in the Będzin ghetto. Young activists built two hideouts used throughout the ghetto, including during its destruction in August 1943. Most people hiding there were murdered or deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau, but several survivors left testimonies confirming the site's history. In 1947, one of Poland’s earliest Holocaust memorial plaques was installed on the building. Since 2024, historical and archaeological research, including the discovery of a previously unknown bunker, has further confirmed its significance.
