Overview
- The BADEHAUS Place of Remembrance
In 1940, the Nazis built a housing settlement for armaments workers ca. 30km south of Munich. At the end of the war, a death march from the Dachau concentration camp passed through here. From 1945 to 1957, Föhrenwald served as a camp for Jewish Displaced Persons who had survived the Holocaust. Afterward, Catholic expellees were settled in the renamed Waldram.
The BADEHAUS Place of Remembrance is located in an authentic setting: the former men’s bathhouse, where a mikveh (Jewish ritual bath) was also set up after the war. The museum is a vibrant place of remembrance, encounter, and education, building up an international network of eyewitnesses. Around 50 volunteers work alongside a young museum team to organize guided tours of the permanent exhibition, events, and educational projects.
