Overview

The Shoah Memorial

Opened in 2012, the Drancy Memorial stands opposite the former Cité de la Muette, the main internment and transit camp for Jews deported from France during the Holocaust. Between 1941 and 1944, around 80,000 Jews were interned at Drancy, and more than 63,000 were deported, most of them to Auschwitz-Birkenau. The permanent exhibition presents the history of the camp through archival documents, personal objects, models, graffiti left by internees and survivors’ testimonies. Opposite the Memorial, visitors can also discover the historic site, the Deportees’ Monument by Shelomo Selinger, the Memorial Wagon and commemorative plaques, creating a unique place where memory and everyday life coexist.
