Overview
- Kehila Trzebinia Association
The former forced labour camp “behind the tracks” in Trzebinia was established by the German Nazi authorities in 1942 as part of the persecution and exploitation of Jews during the Holocaust. Holding between 600 and 800 prisoners at a time, the camp imprisoned Jews deported from across occupied Europe, who were forced to expand the railway freight station and build a locomotive shed under brutal conditions. Hunger, disease, violence and executions claimed countless lives. Recently discovered testimonies reveal that many more prisoners died than previously documented and have helped reconstruct the camp’s history. Today, the site commemorates the victims, preserves their stories and reminds visitors that the Holocaust was the result of deliberate decisions, policies and human actions.
